Wire once, smile for years. A thoughtful low‑voltage plan prevents Wi‑Fi dead zones, protects views from visible cables, and keeps upgrades cheap. Here’s the Boise‑area checklist we use on luxury builds so the house stays flexible without over‑spending.
- Network: Cat6 to every TV and office, plus ceiling access points per 1,000–1,200 sq ft. Conduit from demarc to rack.
- Audio: 2‑conductor to common rooms, patios, and the primary suite; prewire subs in media spaces.
- Shades: Low‑voltage at large south/west windows; group controls where scenes matter.
- Cameras: PoE to soffits/entries; plan views that avoid neighbor windows and include driveway approaches.
- Security: Contact sensors, motion, and a hardwired siren location; prewire for gate control.
- Power/backup: Outlet and space for a small rack; conduit to future battery/EV locations.
Add spare conduits to the attic and garage for future solar, EV, or satellite equipment. Label everything. When in doubt, pull a string. The cost delta is tiny during framing and massive later.
