Orientation is how a “nice house” becomes the right house. Sun, wind, and views are free design tools in the Treasure Valley—use them well and the home stays comfortable through long summer evenings and bright winter days.
Sun. Capture morning light where you want energy—kitchen, breakfast nook, office—and protect evening seating from west sun with overhangs, pergolas, or trees. South‑facing glass paired with the correct overhang depth brings in winter warmth without summer glare.
Wind. Spring breezes can be a gift or a headache. We’ll read local patterns, then place patios behind low walls, plantings, or the mass of the house for shelter. Keep garage doors out of wind funnels to avoid slam and dust.
Views. Frame foothills or river corridors from the rooms you live in, not hallways. A two‑foot window shift can transform a glance into a panorama. In view lots, we choreograph arrival so the front elevation and interior sightlines feel intentional.
- Outdoor power and low‑voltage stubs at patio corners.
- Gas for both grill and fire feature—two separate stubs.
- Hose bibs where you actually garden (and near the shop pad).
- Shade planning for play areas and pet runs.
Garages & service yards. Keep noise and utility clutter away from windows and outdoor rooms. On corner or through‑lots, side‑loading garages often improve curb appeal; we’ll balance that with turning radii and snow storage.
Orientation isn’t perfection; it’s fit. When rooms align with how you live—and the climate you live in—the house feels calm in July and bright in January. We’ll model sun and wind, then set the plan with purpose.
